Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Associate Director of Finance, Services is primarily responsible for the Organization’s client facing financial service functions, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, grant management, and financial forecasting. The position oversees a team of government grants specialists and project controllers, serving 230 social justice projects across the country.

The Associate Director of Finance is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time in order to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Ensures that the daily financial and accounting functions performed by Tides Center Financial Services group are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and all applicable regulatory requirements including those set forth by the Federal Accounting Standards Board such as FASB 116 and 117, and legal rules and regulations for nonprofit operations designated as IRS 501(C)(3) and 501(C)(4) organizations
•    Oversees staff in the areas of customer service issues related to accounting, reporting, grant management, budgeting, and analysis
•    Works alongside Associate Director of Programs and Services to ensure that all client facing staff deliver excellent service to clients and colleagues
•    Partner with Associate Director of Finance, Operations to ensure consistent accounting treatment of all transactions and timely, accurate reporting to clients
•    Support annual financial audit and single audit (OMB A-133) for Tides Center, and Tides Advocacy Fund as needed
•    Provides documentation for the Federal and state tax return preparation for Tides Center and Tides Advocacy Fund, as well as other assigned legal entities contracting services through Tides Center
•    Summarize and forecast project revenues, expenses, and cash flows based on past, present and expected results
•    Reviews, evaluates, engineers workflow process improvements related to project financial reporting, implements policies and procedures, and participates in strategies and testing of accounting system improvements
•    Prepares and presents financial statements and related reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, and variance analysis to projects, and external and internal management team as required
•    Under the supervision of Tides Center’s Director of Finance, leads, mentors, coaches, and teaches Finance staff to work as a team utilizing the annual performance management and goal setting processes and procedures
•    Works with other Finance Leaders across Tides on projects to further collective evolving work of the Tides Network
•    Works with other finance staff, IT staff, and other stakeholders in the development of the data warehouse and cross entity financial reports
•    Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops financial services staff; manages schedules and workflow
•    Assist with the formulation of department goals and objectives, prepare policy recommendations, and assist with the setting of departmental priorities
•    Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•    Proficient  in Blackbaud’s Financial Edge computer software and applications,  and/or other related enterprise-wide accounting systems such as MAS 90 or Great Plains.
•    Exceptional knowledge of GAAP/FASB requirements.
•    Demonstrated ability to interpret economic conditions and anticipate the impact on the organization.
•    Proven track record of maintaining effective internal controls and developing efficient financial policies and procedures.
•    Experience with the implementation of accounting codes, general ledger account management, account reconciliation, account analysis, and preparation of financial statements.
•    Keen judgment and excellent business sense. 
•    Familiarity with and understanding of Sarbanes Oxley and other principles of corporate governance.
•    Effective communicator utilizing active listening skills and clear verbal and written communication.
•    Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to see the big picture while understanding the details involved and the ramifications of the decisions made.
•    Ability to manage relationships with third party service providers to negotiates a win-win contract.
•    Proven track record of successfully supervising high performing finance teams.
•    Proven ability to organize and support work flow processes that ensure high degrees of accuracy and accountability within team members.
•    Demonstrated experience using financial modeling in the decision making process.
•    Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
•    Tolerance for and ability to manage risk.
•    Ability to adapt and lead in a high paced, fluid environment.
•    Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

Education and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or related field or equivalent and CPA, CMA or equivalent is required.  MBA or MPA with emphasis in finance, desired.
•    7 or more years increasingly responsible experience in financial and accounting oversight. Experience with managing foundation and government grants required.
•    Non-profit or governmental experience desired.
