Tidings - Remaking America

January 20, 2009

The hundreds of community activists, individual and institutional donors, and social entrepreneurs that comprise the Tides community are—and will continue to be—critical to the hard work of "remaking America" that the President referred to in his inaugural address. In this first issue of our re-launched email newsletter Tidings, we share with you reflections from thought leaders about the impact of the recession on the nonprofit and philanthropic sector, practical tools to share from our work with the sector, and updates about the work of the Tides community.

GRANTMAKING, NONPROFIT ACTIVITIES REACH $200 MILLION

2008 A Record Year of Impact at Tides

Civically engaged youth Tides awarded $108 million in grants in 2008, making last year the largest in our 33-year history. We made over 3,700 grants to approximately 2,500 nonprofit organizations—including $22 million in grants to organizations outside the U.S. Civic participation was a major focus during the election year; Tides granted nearly $20 million to the issue. Tides also managed over $82 million in revenue for our 200 fiscally sponsored nonprofit projects. Click here to read more about Tides' record year.
