When real estate professionals and philanthropists, Diego Recalde and Majorie Torres attended the 2003 Collaborating for Success Conference, they never dreamed it would lead them to start a $200 million real estate investment pool.  The conference led to a partnership with Tides to create Thoreau Center for Sustainability New York, nonprofit center in the heart of New York City’s Financial District.

After seeing the success of the collaboration, Recalde and Torres started GreenSpace, a private real estate development and fund management firm with significant nonprofit ownership stake.  Their vision is a fund that can provide a triple bottom line -- financial, environmental, and social benefit returns—while also supporting the creation of green nonprofit centers nationwide.  This innovative funding strategy provides a new source of financing to these much needed, but capital-intensive buildings.
