2024 was a watershed moment for our democracy. With voters in dozens of states facing new voter suppression laws, restrictions on basic rights, and disinformation campaigns, Tides moved quickly to partner with doers and donors to protect the rights of all people to participate fully in our democracy.

Going All In To Meet the Moment Our Democracy Demands

Providing financial support and resources to movement leaders earlier in an election cycle gives field organizers the opportunity to maximize impact. When funded earlier in the cycle, they can spend more time building relationships with voters, addressing their concerns, and ensuring they’re prepared to vote long before election day.

In 2024, Tides joined the inaugural “All By April” campaign to grant $200 million by April 30. Together with our partners, we supported movement leaders with a critical 6-month runway to build momentum ahead of the election. Our Healthy Democracy Fund also raised a record $33 million last year to power a more inclusive democracy, representing a 45% increase from 2023.

Affirming Voting Rights Nationwide

Black and Latine communities, immigrants, young people, and low-income people frequently face allegations that they are voting illegally more often than other groups — a myth designed to keep them from casting a ballot. In 2024, Tides’ Healthy Democracy Fund pushed back against voter suppression by supporting grassroots organizations like Jolt Initiative, a Texas nonprofit helping young Texan Latinos make their voices heard through civic participation.

“We’re going to continue to move forward because there is a need to register our next generation of leaders, our next generation of voters, and our next generation of Latinos to be representative in their voice of democracy in our state.”
