Dr. Chisina Kapungu is executive director of WomenStrong International, a global organization that channels resources and support to women-led organizations worldwide. With nearly two decades of experience, she has worked alongside women and girls as a program implementer, researcher, clinical psychologist, and advocate, with expertise in sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.
Chisina has led maternal and child health initiatives in Ghana and Zimbabwe, served as a global health policy fellow in the U.S. Senate, and worked as a gender specialist at the International Center for Research on Women. She was an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Illinois and is principal investigator of a National Institute of Mental Health research study. Her published research covers HIV risk behaviors, adolescent mental health, female genital mutilation, and girls’ education. Inspired by her father’s work with the United Nations, Chisina brings a commitment to gender equity rooted in human rights and international development.
