Color of Democracy Fund hosts the California Donor Table Fund (CDTF). CDTF is a community of donors who pool and align nonpartisan investments to advance the state’s progressive movement spanning issues and constituencies. We believe that all of us – those who advocate for women’s or LGBTQ issues; racial, economic justice or criminal justice; immigrant or workers’ rights; or environmental protection – are only able to win big when we work together. Join us as we focus on building a network that connects all these efforts, making us stronger and more effective.

CommunityGrows is an environmental education program serving high-needs youth, especially those living in public housing in San Francisco. Youth acquire the necessary skills to live a healthy life through garden education, nutritious cooking and eating, and green jobs training.

Located in vibrant San Francisco, our non-profit research lab develops, supports, and conducts original research on the impact of authentic connection. We examine factors that promote feelings of connectedness and ways we can help people connect to themselves and each other. We’re happiness researchers who study the role connection plays across different contexts, such as resiliency in the face of life changes and significant loss, parenting and youth development, and health and well-being. We cherish the San Francisco Bay Area’s history as a hub of innovation, exploration, and social justice, and we work to build productive collaborations between our lab and our community of local innovators and social change makers.

Different research questions require different research methods to explore and answer them. We draw on both qualitative and quantitative methods. Because we always start with people’s lived experiences of connection, our approach is deeply phenomenological — a fancy way of saying we are guided by a commitment to listening to people’s stories and their understanding of their experiences. However, our work goes beyond simply describing the experience of connection, to understanding the role that it plays in our lives, especially as it relates to well-being. The complexities of people’s lives and experiences are often best understood through narrative methods. That said, quantitative methods also have a role in the work we do by allowing rigorous testing of hypotheses, such as whether a specific intervention or practice is effective.

We believe that authentic connection to ourselves and each other is the cornerstone of a life well-lived. Our mission is to help people understand the role that connection plays in well-being, and how to foster it in their everyday lives. Understanding how to develop and maintain connection is a skill — one that can be taught. Come learn with us!

The Costanoan Rumsen Ohlone Tribe are the indigenous people of the Cental California Coastal area and existed peacefully in this region for thousands of years before Spanish Missionaries arrived in the 1760’s. After years of enslavement under the Spanish missionary system the Tribe was forced into exile to avoid violent persecution by settlers and California State sponsored racist policies toward Native Americans. The Costanoan Rumsen tribe moved to Southern California and found work on the ranchos in 1864.

With ancestral lands ranging from San Francisco Bay to Big Sur and numbering at least 15,000 before European contact, the Ohlone people have been largely written out of historical accounts of California and erroneously recorded as extinct. Today the Costanoan Rumsen Tribe has over 2,000 members, with Tribal offices located in downtown Pomona, and are emerging to reclaim their cultural practice, language, and ancestral lands to the north, while letting others know of their continued existence, concern for the environment, and the desire for unity amongst all peoples.

The Council of Urban Professionals’ (CUP) mission is to connect, empower and mobilize the next generation of diverse business and civic leaders. Currently in our tenth year, we support the career progression of professional women and people of color in New York and Los Angeles by (1) delivering compelling skill-building programs focused on accelerating careers and enhancing visibility, and (2) by curating groups of top diverse professionals for impactful conversations and networking opportunities that result in community building, thought leadership, business development and provide a platform for recognizing diverse talent and inspiring service.

Our vision for the next ten years is to become the voice of diverse professionals and, through the delivery of talent development activities and compelling thought leadership, be a catalyst for the promotion of women and people of color into positions of leadership.

At the Data For Good Fund we believe that in order to drive social change, nonprofits have to understand and be able to talk about their data internally and externally.

So many nonprofits that have the potential to do truly game-changing work would be exponentially more effective if they used their own data – that they’re probably already collecting – to learn and drive decision-making and tell good stories.

The Data For Good Fund empowers nonprofits with an elegant data visualization tool plus training so nonprofits build internal capacity to capture, manage, and use their data in whatever way they deem worthy – whether that’s to improve, grow, or fundraise more effectively.

Our vision is an ecosystem of nonprofits using data to accelerate social change.

Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing (DISH) strives to provide excellent property management services to help end homelessness in San Francisco. DISH, a project of the Tides Center, provides tailored property management exclusively to the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s Direct Access to Housing program. Through its work, DISH hopes to demonstrate the healing effects of home and stable community, to reinforce the self-worth of persons who have not had access to a clean, beautiful place to live, and to involve tenants in healthy and life affirming activities by drawing upon the diverse opportunities in San Francisco.

In October of 2006, DISH began providing property management services at the Pacific Bay Inn and the Empress Hotel. Effective July 1, 2007, DISH manages six residential hotels: the Camelot, the Empress, the Le Nain, the Pacific Bay Inn, the Star, and the Windsor; providing permanent supportive housing for over 450 formerly homeless adults. Some of the promising trends of the first six months of operation include:
– High level of tenant satisfaction with DISH services
– Increased job satisfaction reported by DISH staff in a survey of all employees and at staff gatherings;
– Increased focus on staff development by hosting all staff meetings that include teambuilding efforts as well as training on such topics as staff safety, reasonable accommodation, harm reduction, and staff boundaries;
– Assessment of capital improvement needs of both sites, and progress on extensive deferred maintenance at the Pacific Bay Inn; and,
-Positive feedback from DPH HUH staff and collaborators regarding team building, efficiency of meetings, cost savings, financial management, and staff performance.
